Vanilla Ice Stands Firm on Freedom 250 Performance Amid Artist Exodus
Artists still planning to perform or who have defended their participation include Vanilla Ice, Flo Rida, and Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli. C+C Music Factory’s Freedom Williams expressed a defiant stance, stating he doesn’t care about Trump and won’t let critics dictate his decisions.

Washington, D.C. – Rapper Vanilla Ice is defending his commitment to perform at the Freedom 250 Great American State Fair, insisting the event celebrates America’s 250th anniversary rather than politics, even as multiple artists have withdrawn from the lineup.
In interviews and social media posts, Vanilla Ice emphasized unity and entertainment over division. “This is to bring us all together. I’m tired of all the news channels dividing this country. We are all one,” he stated. “Happy birthday America 250 years. It’s gonna be an epic party... This is not a political platform. This is celebrating America’s birthday.”
He added that music transcends politics: “Music has no political rules. We are just entertainers... I’d go play for Putin and I’ll play in Iran if you want. There are fans everywhere.”
The Great American State Fair, part of the Trump administration’s Freedom 250 initiative for the nation’s semiquincentennial, features free concerts on the National Mall from June 25 to July 10, 2026.
Several announced performers have pulled out, citing concerns they were misled about the event’s ties to the Trump administration. Those who withdrew include:
- Martina McBride, who said organizers initially presented it as nonpartisan but “things started changing.”
- Bret Michaels (Poison)
- Morris Day and The Time
- Young MC, who posted “It’s A No For Me” after learning of political involvement.
- The Commodores

Vanilla Ice told Newsmax the focus should remain on celebrating the nation. The event continues to move forward with additional acts expected to be announced.
