WASHINGTON – Newly unsealed search warrant affidavits in the capital murder case against Tyler Robinson include a handwritten letter in which the suspect allegedly confessed to assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The documents, made public on April 9–10, 2026, in Utah’s 4th District Court, detail a note Robinson reportedly left for his roommate and boyfriend, Lance Twiggs (referred to in the letter as “Luna”). In the letter, Robinson allegedly wrote: “Luna, if you are reading this per my text, then I am so sorry... I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I took it.” He added that he expected to be either dead or facing a lengthy prison sentence.

Robinson, 22, is charged with capital murder in the September 10, 2025, shooting death of Charlie Kirk, the co-founder of Turning Point USA. Kirk was fatally shot from a rooftop sniper position while speaking at an outdoor event on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

According to the unsealed affidavits, Robinson also sent text messages to Twiggs immediately after the shooting, instructing him to look under the keyboard for the note and to delete messages and avoid speaking with police. Investigators recovered the handwritten letter, along with other evidence including Robinson’s DNA on the rifle, trigger, fired cartridge casing, unfired cartridges, and a towel used to wrap the weapon.

Robinson surrendered to authorities the day after the shooting. Prosecutors say he made additional incriminating statements to family members and in Discord messages, including telling a family friend who was a former sheriff’s deputy about the incident.

The case has drawn national attention due to Kirk’s prominent role in conservative politics and the political nature of the alleged motive. Robinson faces the death penalty if convicted. A preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for May 2026.

The unsealed documents provide the most detailed public look yet at the evidence gathered by investigators, including forensic analysis and Robinson’s alleged admissions. Defense attorneys have questioned some aspects of the forensic evidence, including bullet analysis, but prosecutors maintain they have a strong case supported by DNA, digital evidence, and Robinson’s own statements.

This remains an ongoing criminal case. Robinson is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
