Trump Rejects Iranian Proposal to Reopen Strait of Hormuz in Seven Days
Wall Street Journal reports president is skeptical Tehran will meet demands and sees renewed bombing campaign as likely after midterms.

President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and pause regional fighting within seven days, according to a Wall Street Journal report citing U.S. officials.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told reporters at the United Nations on Friday that Tehran had transmitted the plan through Qatari mediators. Under the proposal, a deal would start a seven-day countdown to reopen the strategic waterway and end hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon. In return, Iran sought lifting of the U.S. blockade on its ports, release of frozen funds, and waivers of oil sanctions.
Trump was privately skeptical that Iran would meet his demands, the Journal reported. He told aides he expects a renewed U.S. bombing campaign after the November midterm elections. Oil prices fell about 2 percent Friday on hopes of a truce.
The rejection follows earlier high-level contacts, including a three-hour mediated session between U.S. envoys and the Iranian UN delegation. The administration has maintained pressure through sanctions, military operations, and naval measures aimed at degrading Iran’s ability to threaten shipping and regional stability.
Iran awaits an official U.S. response.
