Trump Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to Iran: Accept Peace Deal or Face Further U.S. Action
This is the most direct ultimatum issued by Trump since the conflict began and signals the administration’s determination to bring the crisis to a swift resolution on American terms.

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump has given Iran 48 hours to accept a U.S.-backed peace proposal or face escalated military consequences, according to senior administration officials.
In a Truth Social post on Saturday, President Trump said "Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT. Time is running out - 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them. Glory be to GOD! President DONALD J. TRUMP".
The move comes six weeks into the conflict that began with U.S. and Israeli strikes on February 28, 2026. Iran has responded by mining parts of the Strait of Hormuz, launching missiles at U.S. bases and Gulf shipping, and threatening to close the critical waterway through which roughly one-fifth of global oil passes.

Trump has repeatedly stated that the United States will not tolerate Iranian disruption of international shipping lanes. In another Truth Social post earlier this week, he told allies facing fuel shortages: “The U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us,” while offering to sell them American oil and urging them to “build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT.”
The 48-hour deadline reflects growing impatience in the White House after Iran rejected earlier ceasefire proposals and continued proxy attacks through the Houthis and Hezbollah. Officials say the proposal includes sanctions relief in exchange for verifiable denuclearization steps and an end to attacks on shipping.
The Pentagon has already positioned additional naval and air assets in the region, including elements of the 82nd Airborne Division and Marine Expeditionary Units, to support potential follow-on operations if Iran does not comply.
Gulf states most directly threatened by Iran have privately urged the U.S. to maintain pressure, while European allies have been reluctant to commit naval forces to secure the strait. Trump has made clear that the burden of protecting global oil flows cannot fall solely on the United States.
No immediate response from Iranian leadership has been reported. The administration continues to pursue both military options and indirect diplomacy through third parties, but officials say the 48-hour window is firm.
