Trump: Hormuz Under U.S. Control — More Iran Strikes Ready “Anytime We Want”

President Trump said Wednesday that overnight U.S. strikes on Iran were “a very heavy attack,” that American forces destroyed new Iranian equipment along the Strait of Hormuz, and that the military is prepared to hit again “any time we want.” Asked how long the renewed bombing might last, he told reporters, “I don’t think too long.” The strikes were the second U.S. wave in three days. They followed Sunday’s hits on IRGC rocket launchers on Larak Island that Central Command said were being prepared to seed mines into the strait. Trump told Fox that Iran “tried to rebuild their radar because they can’t see anything. We waited until it was almost built and then we hit it.”

On Truth Social he wrote that he “couldn’t care less if they sign a worthless, to them, agreement,” that the United States now has “almost total control of the Hormuz Strait,” that Iran’s economy is “totally collapsing,” and asked, “When are the Iranian people going to rise up and fight?” He separately warned that further Iranian retaliation would bring “a much harder and higher level” of attack, with a still-larger option “waiting in the wings.”

Wednesday morning he posted: “Now that we have it under U.S.A. control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT??? Like America itself, it would be ‘hotter’ than ever before!” The White House account followed with a branded map. Hours later in the Oval Office he chuckled that the idea was “just thrown out there.”

The waterway carries a large share of global oil and LNG when open. Traffic has remained well below pre-war levels through months of mining, intermittent closure, and U.S.–Iran exchanges. The IRGC said Wednesday that two oil tankers hit mines while taking what it called an illegal route and that crews had to abandon ship. Iranian state media put the latest U.S. round at 18 dead and 108 wounded, including a reported strike on a wedding gathering in the coastal town of Kuhestak. Those figures are Tehran’s. Washington has described the targets as military—air defense, radar, and maritime assets.

Iran claimed missile and drone attacks on U.S. facilities in Kuwait, the UAE, Jordan, and Bahrain. Gulf governments reported intercepts and, in Kuwait, sirens and a fire that officials said was contained. Brent crude traded as high as about $97 during the fighting, then eased near $95.30 after Trump’s remarks. The conflict is more than six months old. Treasury’s weekly sanctions campaign against Iranian banks and enablers continues in parallel with the kinetic track.
