Trump Calls for Cancellation of Freedom 250 Concert on National Mall

In a statement released Saturday, Trump said the large-scale concert is “not the right direction” for the official national celebrations. He emphasized focusing on reverence for the nation’s founding principles and proposed a MAGA rally/speech instead.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has publicly called for canceling the Freedom 250 concert scheduled for July 4 on the National Mall, citing recent artist walkouts and calling the planned event “third rate.”

In a statement released Saturday, Trump said the large-scale concert is “not the right direction” for the official national celebrations. He emphasized focusing on reverence for the nation’s founding principles and proposed a MAGA rally/speech instead.

Trump has thrown his full support behind the Rededicate250 initiative, particularly the Prayer Jubilee held on the National Mall earlier this month. He and Vice President JD Vance attended and spoke at that event, which organizers described as the official kickoff for the semiquincentennial celebrations leading to July 4, 2026.

The Freedom 250 concert had been promoted as a major patriotic music event. Trump’s stance creates a clear divide in how the 250th anniversary is being commemorated. The official Rededicate250 program continues as the administration’s preferred framework, focusing on prayer, reflection, and national rededication. No immediate response from Freedom 250 organizers.
