Trump and Rubio Weigh Firing Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle Over Misconduct Reports
A senior U.S. official says Trump and Rubio are weighing firing Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle after Wall Street Journal reports of improper conduct. The official said the two are “extremely pissed off” and a decision is likely this week. No departure has been announced.

A senior US official told the Associated Press on Sunday that President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are weighing the removal of Kimberly Guilfoyle as ambassador to Greece. The official said the two are “extremely pissed off” by the reported conduct and will likely decide on action this week after Monday’s federal holiday.
The Wall Street Journal has published multiple stories since late September detailing alleged conduct by Guilfoyle. One report said she asked Trump donor Eric Deters to wire $100,000 to pay an American Express bill shortly before her Senate confirmation, offering assistance in gaining access to administration officials and stating the transfer would leave no paper trail. Deters said he did not send the money. Other reporting described acceptance of improper gifts and services, promotion of a Greek company’s interests, and remarks at a reception suggesting the United States could undermine the Greek government.
Guilfoyle’s lawyer has denied wrongdoing. Rubio visited Athens last week for meetings and a speech near the Acropolis. The official said Rubio was particularly angry because Guilfoyle attended most of his events and greeted him with a bear hug while the allegations were circulating. Rubio previously defended her performance, stating she had been a strong ambassador, but later told reporters he would not treat unverified source claims as “gospel.”
Trump, asked Friday about the reports, said he had just heard about them and that Guilfoyle “was always very nice.” He offered no further defense. Guilfoyle was previously engaged to Donald Trump Jr. She was confirmed as ambassador earlier this year.
The State Department’s inspector general is also examining aspects of the reported conduct, according to officials. No formal departure has been announced. The episode arrives as the administration continues high-level engagement with European partners on energy, defense and the ongoing Iran conflict.
