These 10 House Republicans Joined Democrats to Extend Haitian TPS Deportation Protections
If passed in the Senate, the measure, advanced by Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) via discharge petition, would force the Trump administration to reinstate protections the Department of Homeland Security terminated in 2025.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. House passed a resolution on April 16, 2026, extending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for approximately 350,000 Haitian migrants for three more years, with 10 Republicans crossing party lines to join Democrats in a 224-204 vote.
If passed in the Senate, the measure, advanced by Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) via discharge petition, would force the Trump administration to reinstate protections the Department of Homeland Security terminated in 2025. It comes ahead of a pending Supreme Court ruling on the issue.
The 10 Republicans who voted yes were: Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.), Mike Lawler (N.Y.), Don Bacon (Neb.), María Elvira Salazar (Fla.), Carlos Giménez (Fla.), Nicole Malliotakis (N.Y.), Rich McCormick (Ga.), Mike Turner (Ohio), Mike Carey (Ohio), and Mario Díaz-Balart (Fla.). Independent Rep. Kevin Kiley (Calif.), who caucuses with Republicans, also supported it.
Critics, including Trump administration officials and conservative lawmakers, called the vote a rebuke of border security priorities, noting recent violent incidents involving Haitian migrants. The bill now heads to the Senate, where its fate remains uncertain.
