An estimated 58 percent or more of Americans get their news from at least one of the four largest news aggregators—Apple News, Google News, Yahoo News, and Microsoft’s MSN—yet analysis by the Media Research Center found that right-leaning outlets account for a small fraction of the stories those platforms promote.

David Bozell, who leads the Media Research Center, said a review of one month of Apple News coverage found that of 620 stories promoted on its top feeds, none came from a right-wing news source. Of 487 top stories examined on Google News in February, only 11, or 2.2 percent, were right-leaning, while 314, or 64.5 percent, were left-leaning and 162, or 33.3 percent, were classified as center. On Apple News in January, of 620 top stories, zero were right-leaning and 440 were left-leaning. Articles from outlets such as Fox News and the New York Post were not promoted during the periods reviewed.

A broader examination of the four platforms in April found that the apps promoted left-leaning outlets 92 percent of the time and right-leaning outlets only 17 percent of the time. When right-leaning sources appeared, they were typically non-political features, according to the Media Research Center. An earlier five-month analysis covering November 2025 through March 2026 examined 7,265 articles across the same four apps and found that 70 percent came from left-leaning outlets while right-leaning outlets accounted for roughly 5 percent.

In that longer review, Yahoo News featured left-leaning outlets in nearly 87 percent of the articles it promoted. Microsoft’s MSN was the most balanced of the four, with 52 percent left-leaning, 37 percent center, and 11 percent right-leaning. Apple News featured only 14 articles from right-leaning outlets out of 2,825 total during the period. Researchers used AllSides media bias ratings to categorize outlets as left, lean left, center, lean right, or right.

The Media Research Center is a conservative media watchdog. The platforms have not publicly responded to the specific findings in the Just the News report. The analyses examined only top promoted stories and did not assess the full range of content available through search or personalized feeds.
