House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) expressed firm optimism about Republican prospects in the 2026 midterm elections during a March 12, 2026, interview with Daily Wire host Michael Knowles.

Johnson stated, "I’m very bullish about the midterms," adding he is "absolutely convinced we are going to win the midterms and grow the majority," which would defy historical trends where sitting presidents rarely gain seats in their first two-year cycle. He cited a Republican fundraising edge over Democrats for the first time in a decade, historically low Democratic approval ratings, and a lack of coherent leadership or vision on the opposing side, noting their platform revolves around opposition to President Donald Trump.

The discussion also covered election integrity, with Johnson highlighting the House-passed SAVE America Act, combining voter ID and proof of citizenship requirements for federal elections. He described it as the "greatest hits" of measures advocated by Trump, emphasizing broad public support and the need to restore faith in the system, saying, "You can’t have a constitutional republic if people don’t have faith in the election system." The bill faces Senate challenges, including potential lengthy amendments.

Johnson addressed managing the slim Republican House majority, noting the one-vote margin requires unanimity and referencing frequent opposition from Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY). On foreign policy, he clarified Republicans are not interventionists or nation-builders, limited by fiscal constraints.
