August 1, 2025 - A violent incident unfolded in El Paso County, Colorado, on July 31, 2025, when two illegal aliens, attempted to ram their vehicle into U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers during a targeted operation in the Black Forest area, prompting a shootout and a massive law enforcement response.

The confrontation occurred near the 9900 block of Burgess Road, where ICE agents were conducting an enforcement action. According to ICE, the suspects deliberately tried to strike officers with their car, forcing an agent to fire three shots into the vehicle in self-defense. The fugitives fled the scene, later abandoning their car and escaping on foot. No injuries were reported, but the suspects remain at large, triggering an ongoing manhunt involving multiple agencies, including the FBI’s Denver field office.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office issued a shelter-in-place order for a quarter-mile radius around Burgess Road at 10:25 a.m., urging residents to secure their homes and stay clear of windows. The alert was lifted just before 6:30 p.m., but Burgess Road between Black Forest and Greentree Roads remains closed indefinitely. A related scene was identified three miles away at a construction site near Vollmer and Poco Roads in the Timber Ridge neighborhood, where federal agents continued their investigation.

ICE emphasized the growing dangers faced by its officers, noting an 830% surge in assaults against them. The agency condemned the attack, stating it reflects a broader pattern of hostility fueled by anti-enforcement rhetoric. The FBI confirmed it is probing the assault on a federal officer but provided no further details due to the active investigation.

This brazen act underscores the risks ICE agents face while securing our borders and enforcing immigration laws. The public is urged to avoid the area and report any suspicious activity to authorities as the search for these dangerous fugitives continues.
