Rep. Anna Paulina Luna Alleges Physical Assault by Code Pink Co-Founder Medea Benjamin After House Hearing

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) stated she was physically assaulted by the head organizer of Code Pink outside a congressional hearing on June 3, 2026, and is pressing criminal charges while calling for the activist group to be banned from the U.S. Capitol.

The incident occurred immediately after Luna questioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a House Western Hemisphere Subcommittee hearing about Code Pink’s alleged foreign funding ties and connections to the Chinese Communist Party. Luna said the group surrounded her as she left the Rayburn House Office Building, berated her, and one member struck her.

“I was literally walking, trying to walk away from this person, and they smacked me,” Luna told TMZ. “After I questioned Secretary Rubio on Code Pink and their ties to the CCP, their organization followed me out, berated me, and then their head person here in DC smacked me.”

Video of the encounter, obtained by TMZ from Code Pink itself, shows co-founder Medea Benjamin following Luna and making physical contact with her arm while continuing to question her about U.S. policy toward Cuba. Luna is heard saying, “Wait, you just touched me.” She has provided Capitol Police with witness statements from her staff and the video evidence.

Luna expressed confidence that charges will be filed. “I have asked the Speaker to ban Code Pink. I was just physically hit by their head organizer. This is right after I questioned Secretary Rubio about them.”

Code Pink has pushed back, describing the contact as a light touch with no harmful intent and accusing Luna of exaggerating the incident for political reasons. The group is reportedly preparing an ethics complaint against Luna.

Capitol Police reviewed the footage but released Benjamin without immediate charges. Luna maintains the action crossed into assault and has drawn a line against aggressive protest tactics targeting elected officials. The episode highlights rising tensions between lawmakers and activist groups amid scrutiny of foreign influence in U.S. politics.
