Prosecutors Zero In on Brennan as Florida Grand Jury Probe Moves Ahead

Federal prosecutors in the Southern District of Florida have subpoenaed former CIA Director John Brennan to testify Oct. 15 before a grand jury in Fort Pierce, his lawyer confirmed in a court filing.

Prosecutor Kurt Olsen told Brennan’s counsel that Brennan is a “target” of a narrower investigation into alleged false statements to Congress and a “subject” of a “more wide-ranging conspiracy” case. Olsen said the narrower case remains “still viable” and that the same facts could be treated as overt acts in the larger probe.

The confirmation appeared in Brennan’s separate lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, where he is seeking an order forcing the government to preserve records of the investigations into him. Just the News reported the filing Sunday.

The Florida investigation is being run by U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones. Olsen described it as “far-reaching” and said it includes “issues at Mar-a-Lago and beyond” — an apparent reference to the 2022 FBI search of Trump’s residence and later criminal cases. The theory of the wider case is that intelligence and law-enforcement officials conspired to deprive Donald Trump of civil rights across the Russia investigation, the 2020-election cases, and the classified-documents matter.

The false-statements track traces to Brennan’s testimony about the January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment, which stated with high confidence that Vladimir Putin ordered a 2016 influence campaign and “developed a clear preference” for Trump. House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan referred Brennan for prosecution last year. Then-Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe sent a criminal referral to the FBI.

Special Counsel John Durham’s final report found that neither law enforcement nor the intelligence community “appears to have possessed any actual evidence of collusion in their holdings at the commencement of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.” A 2025 CIA tradecraft review said the decision by agency heads to put the Steele dossier into the ICA “ran counter to fundamental tradecraft principles and ultimately undermined the credibility of a key judgment.”

Brennan has denied wrongdoing. In a later interview he said he may have “suspected there was more than there actually was.” He has called the current inquiries vindictive. His lawyers have said that if an indictment is returned they will move to dismiss it as unconstitutional retaliation.

The Fort Pierce grand jury sits in a courthouse overseen by U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon. Joseph diGenova signed the Brennan subpoena on Sept. 9 and resigned from the case the next day. Olsen continued the work. Brennan remains a senior national-security analyst for NBC and MS NOW. President Trump revoked his security clearance in January 2025.

No charges have been filed. A subpoena is not an accusation. The filing does establish two live grand-jury tracks, a date for testimony, and a prosecutor on the record describing Brennan’s status in each.
