The results were released as the Supreme Court weighs the Watson v. RNC case on Mississippi’s law allowing absentee ballots up to five days after Election Day if postmarked by Election Day.

WASHINGTON – A new poll from the Honest Elections Project shows 83% of likely voters believe mail-in ballots should be received by Election Day.
The survey, conducted by CRC Research from March 12-17, 2026, among 1,600 likely voters nationwide, found 57% strongly agree. Support crossed party lines: 93% of Republicans, 83% of Independents, and 74% of Democrats.
The poll also found 78% say requiring ballots to be received by the end of Election Day makes elections more secure. Sixty percent believe counting ballots received after polls close makes it easier to cheat, and 59% said they would not trust results if late-arriving ballots are counted.
The results were released as the Supreme Court weighs the Watson v. RNC case on Mississippi’s law allowing absentee ballots up to five days after Election Day if postmarked by Election Day. The Honest Elections Project noted Americans demand clear Election Day deadlines.
