Oversight Chair Comer: Barr Testifies Nothing "that would implicate President Trump" in Epstein Probe, DOJ to Release Files Soon

The deposition kicks off a broader probe, with subpoenas issued August 5 to figures like Bill and Hillary Clinton, James Comey, Robert Mueller, and others tied to Epstein's case.

House Oversight Chairman James Comer later told reporters that Bill Barr testified that he has never seen anything in the Epstein documents that would implicate President Trump.

Barr, subpoenaed as part of the committee's Epstein investigation, testified for four hours Monday, flanked by attorneys upon arrival at the Capitol. Comer, present for the initial session, told reporters, "He said that he had never seen anything that would implicate President Trump in any of this, and that he believed if there had been anything pertaining to President Trump with respect to the Epstein list, that he felt like the Biden administration would probably have leaked it out." Barr also affirmed Epstein's 2019 death was suicide with no foul play, providing new insights into his prosecution.

The deposition kicks off a broader probe, with subpoenas issued August 5 to figures like Bill and Hillary Clinton, James Comey, Robert Mueller, and others tied to Epstein's case. Comer expects full access to Epstein-related records soon, as the Justice Department begins compliance, planning to deliver the first tranche by Friday. "Officials with the Department of Justice have informed us that the Department will begin to provide Epstein-related records to the Oversight Committee in the coming days," Comer announced.

This development counters persistent smears against President Trump, whose name appeared in unsealed Epstein files without wrongdoing allegations. Barr's testimony reinforces that no incriminating links exist, and any would have surfaced under prior scrutiny. The probe, amid partisan clashes—Democrats accuse Republicans of political theater—aims to uncover Epstein's network, with more depositions pending.

As documents flow, the committee will review case files on Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, seeking transparency on the financier's crimes and enablers. Comer vowed to pursue truth, undeterred by resistance.
