Washington, D.C. – The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has launched a detailed probe into federal grants, contracts, and awards provided to 49 nonprofit organizations, many aligned with progressive causes including immigration advocacy, DEI programs, LGBTQ+ initiatives, and environmental activism.

In a May 13, 2026 memo sent to all federal agencies, OMB required comprehensive reporting on funding from fiscal years 2024 through 2026. Agencies were instructed to submit data by May 29, with OMB officials scheduled to review responses on June 5. The request covers grants (including subgrants), cooperative agreements, loans, contracts, and other monetary awards.

Targeted groups include the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), Tides Center, Aspen Institute, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, Minneapolis Foundation, TransLatin@ Coalition, Transgender Equity Consulting, and National Urban League.

The action advances the Trump administration’s commitment to preventing taxpayer dollars from supporting organizations whose activities may conflict with national security, immigration enforcement, or fiscal responsibility. Many of these groups received substantial federal funding under prior administrations for programs related to refugee resettlement, civil rights litigation, and policy advocacy.

For instance, the Tides Center and affiliates received nearly $38 million in federal funds in 2024, directing resources toward abortion access, affirmative action, and gender-related causes. The SPLC has faced scrutiny over its operations, including a recent indictment related to its use of informants.

The TransLatin@ Coalition and similar entities focus on transgender advocacy within immigrant communities, areas that have drawn attention amid broader efforts to secure borders and reform entitlement programs.

This review forms part of larger administration initiatives to audit federal spending and eliminate waste. It follows executive actions emphasizing alignment with America First priorities and protecting public resources from politicized use. Responses from agencies will help identify patterns of funding that may require future policy adjustments or terminations.
