New Mexico Governor's Crime Emergency Exposes Democrat Hypocrisy on Federal Overreach

Just days after calling President Trump's move "Massive overreach", Grisham authorized National Guard to be used to fight crime in her state.

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham's declaration of a crime emergency, authorizing National Guard deployment, starkly contradicts her recent condemnation of President Trump's federal control over D.C. police as dangerous overreach.

Just days ago, Grisham and Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller issued a statement blasting President Trump's activation of 800 Guard troops in D.C. without local coordination, calling it a "fundamental misunderstanding of effective public safety strategy" and "massive executive overreach." Yet, on August 13, she declared an emergency in Rio Arriba County, Española, and surrounding Pueblos due to surging violent crime, drug trafficking, and fentanyl overdoses overwhelming local resources. The order releases up to $750,000 for response efforts and empowers the Adjutant General to mobilize Guard units for support.

This isn't isolated; Grisham declared a similar emergency in Albuquerque in April, mobilizing Guard troops amid rising crime, and in 2023 suspended gun carry rights in public spaces after shootings—actions she defends as leadership but mirroring what she decries in President Trump. Under her governance since 2018, police calls doubled, business dispatches quadrupled, and Rio Arriba leads in overdose deaths.

The pattern extends to other Democrat leaders. New York Governor Kathy Hochul deployed 1,000 Guard troops to NYC subways in March for bag checks amid assaults, yet criticized President Trump's interventions as hypocritical. Oregon Governor Kate Brown condemned federal agents in Portland during 2020 riots as overreach but activated state Guard for her own emergencies. California Governor Gavin Newsom slammed President Trump's border Guard deployments but used them for wildfires and crime responses.

These inconsistencies reveal activist judges and Democrat officials selectively invoking "overreach" to hinder President Trump's safety measures while employing similar tactics themselves, prioritizing politics over consistent governance.
