Mullin: DHS Has 1,620 Noncitizen Voting Cases Open and 151 Arrests

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the Department of Homeland Security is investigating 1,620 cases of alleged voter fraud involving noncitizens and has already made 151 arrests.

He told Fox News contributor Kayleigh McEnany that the department is also working through roughly 300,000 additional names compiled from state voter rolls. Officers are matching those records against people in the country illegally, lawful permanent residents, and U.S. citizens to determine who voted and whether they were eligible.

“We’re scrubbing them. We’re comparing them to those that are in the country illegally, those that are legal permanent residents and those that are citizens,” Mullin said.

He said the work is confirming what President Donald Trump has argued for years: illegal ballots are not a theory. “Every single vote, Kayleigh, that we talk about, that was at the hands of an illegal canceled out a citizen that was legally registered and able to vote.”

The figures are larger than the charging packages the Justice Department has rolled out office by office. On Friday, federal prosecutors announced 16 people charged with illegal voting, illegal registration, and related crimes in Texas, Idaho, Georgia, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, New Jersey, and Michigan. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and federal prosecutors separately announced seven noncitizen arrests tied to the 2024 election. ICE last week arrested a Guatemalan national in Indianapolis accused of voting in a U.S. national election.

Mullin’s numbers describe a DHS caseload still in motion, not a finished indictment list. He did not release a state-by-state breakdown, did not name the 151 defendants, and did not say how many of the 300,000 names have already been cleared. The 300,000 figure is a review list drawn from voter rolls, not a count of proven illegal votes.

Breitbart, citing earlier White House documents, reported that the administration has previously identified at least 250,000 foreign nationals illegally registered in California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Nevada. DHS has said the review is expanding to more states and that the department will support a Justice Department examination of voter files under the National Voter Registration Act and the Help America Vote Act.

The midterms are six weeks away. The Supreme Court has left a nationwide injunction in place against new Postal Service mail-ballot rules. Speaker Mike Johnson and House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil had been trying to move documentary proof of citizenship and a nationwide photo ID requirement through reconciliation, but the House adjourned Sept. 16 and is not scheduled to return until after Nov. 3.
