New intelligence reveals that the perpetrator of a violent attack on a Michigan synagogue has a direct family tie to a Hezbollah terrorist commander, prompting intensified scrutiny into potential terror connections.

Ayman Muhammad Ghazali, 41, rammed a vehicle into Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township on March 12, 2026, around 1 p.m. EDT, driving through the doors and down a hallway before engaging in a shootout with armed security guards. The vehicle ignited, and Ghazali was killed; a security guard was injured but treated at a hospital. No congregants or preschool children inside were harmed.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) disclosed that Ghazali's brother, Ibrahim Muhammad Ghazali, was a Hezbollah commander overseeing weapons operations in the Badr Unit, responsible for launching hundreds of rockets at Israeli civilians. Ibrahim was killed in an Israeli airstrike on March 5, days before the synagogue attack. Investigators are probing whether Ayman had operational links to Hezbollah or acted independently.

Ghazali, a Lebanese immigrant residing in Dearborn, Michigan, recently lost family members in an Israeli strike on Lebanon, according to local officials. Terrorism experts note Hezbollah's global networks, designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S.

The FBI and ATF are assisting local authorities in the investigation, classified as a targeted act of violence against the Jewish community.
