Leavitt: WHCD Shooter’s Manifesto Matched Democrat Rhetoric ‘Almost Word for Word’
During the White House press briefing, Leavitt directly linked the document’s language to the “demonization” of Trump by Democrats, media figures, and what she described as a “left-wing cult of hatred.”

WASHINGTON — White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters Monday that the manifesto written by accused White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooter Cole Tomas Allen closely mirrored years of Democratic and left-wing rhetoric against President Trump and his administration.
During the White House press briefing, Leavitt directly linked the document’s language to the “demonization” of Trump by Democrats, media figures, and what she described as a “left-wing cult of hatred.” She stated the manifesto was “indistinguishable” from common anti-Trump talking points that have labeled the president a “fascist” and “threat to democracy.”
Allen, 31, of Torrance, California, opened fire at a security checkpoint outside the Washington Hilton ballroom on April 25. In the manifesto sent to family members minutes before the attack, he identified himself as the “Friendly Federal Assassin” and explicitly targeted “Administration officials (not including Mr. Patel)” ranked from highest to lowest. The document contained repeated anti-Trump grievances and anti-Christian rhetoric.
Leavitt emphasized that the shooter’s stated motives were not a mystery, contradicting claims by some Democrats and media outlets that the motive remained unknown. She argued that years of inflammatory rhetoric have created a toxic environment that incites violence.
The briefing came days after the incident forced the evacuation of President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and senior officials. Allen was subdued by Secret Service and local law enforcement after a brief exchange of gunfire that injured one officer (protected by a vest). He faces federal charges of using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer.
The FBI continues its investigation into Allen’s background, digital footprint, and full intent. No terrorism charges have been filed.
For Americans who have watched repeated political attacks on the president, Leavitt’s comments underscored the administration’s view that unchecked rhetoric bears real consequences. The White House Correspondents’ Association dinner was canceled and will be rescheduled within the next 30 days.
