Kansas Man Charged With Threatening to Shoot President Trump Ahead of Wichita Rally
A 24-year-old Kansas man was charged with threatening to shoot President Trump after posting Facebook comments about shooting him and claiming he had mapped rooftops near a Wichita-area rally. He was arrested Saturday.

The Justice Department charged a 24-year-old Kansas man with making threats against the President after he posted Facebook comments about shooting Donald Trump and claimed to have mapped rooftops near the site of Trump’s Monday rally in the Wichita area.
Jaden J. Read of Clearwater was arrested Saturday and charged under 18 U.S.C. § 871, which prohibits knowing and willful threats to take the life of or inflict bodily harm upon the President. He remains in custody pending a detention hearing. The maximum penalty is five years in prison.
The investigation began with a Crime Stoppers tip on October 15 about comments posted under a KAKE News Facebook article previewing Trump’s visit. Prosecutors quoted Read writing: “Let’s shoot Trump honestly, where’s our shooter? I’m tired of living this money life.” A follow-up comment referenced ammunition and further threats. Additional comments under a KWCH 12 News post included “Can we shoot him in Kansas please I will myself” and “IK where your speech will be. Already mapped out roofs around. Finna get kirked since yall couldn’t help him,” an apparent reference to the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser stated that “political violence and threats of political violence will not be tolerated.” Multiple agencies, including the Secret Service, Kansas Bureau of Investigation, and local police, participated in the investigation. Trump was in Kansas on Monday to campaign for Sen. Roger Marshall.
The criminal complaint was filed October 17 in the District of Kansas. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
