Harvard/Harris Poll Shows Strong Majority Support for Trump’s Handling of Iran Conflict

WASHINGTON — A new Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll released April 29, 2026, reveals widespread support among American voters for President Donald Trump’s military and diplomatic actions against Iran, even as the fragile ceasefire continues.

Conducted April 23–26 among 2,745 registered voters, the survey found 52% of respondents support the U.S. military airstrikes on Iran, while 54% believe those strikes were justified. A strong 78% of voters approve of Trump’s decision to agree to a temporary ceasefire with Iran, and 57% back the administration’s naval blockade of Iranian ports.

The poll also shows voters believe the United States is in a strong negotiating position. A majority expressed confidence that Trump’s combination of military pressure and diplomacy has put America in a winning position in the conflict.

These findings stand in contrast to several other recent national polls that showed more divided or negative views on the war. The Harvard/Harris results highlight solid backing among Republicans and notable support from independents for Trump’s firm stance against Iran’s nuclear ambitions and its disruption of the Strait of Hormuz.

The poll comes as the U.S. maintains its naval blockade of Iranian ports despite the indefinite ceasefire, and as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has been shuttling through the region seeking to reopen shipping lanes without immediate nuclear concessions. Trump has repeatedly said the blockade will remain in place until a comprehensive deal is reached.

For the Trump administration, the Harvard/Harris numbers provide a boost as it navigates stalled negotiations with Iran and faces criticism from some NATO allies for limited support during the conflict. The results suggest that, among voters, Trump’s approach of maximum pressure combined with diplomatic openings continues to resonate with a majority of the American public.
