Georgia Memory Card With 388 Votes Flips House Race; State Opens Probe
A missed memory card in Seminole County reversed the result in House District 154, giving Republican Gerald Greene a 262-vote lead after he had trailed on election night.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s office announced Friday that a memory card containing 388 votes had not been uploaded in Seminole County, changing the outcome of the House District 154 contest. Before the card was located and tabulated, Democrat Harry James led Republican incumbent Gerald Greene by fewer than 100 votes. After the addition, Greene led by 262 votes.
The discrepancy was identified during a routine post-election comparison of the number of voters who checked in against the number of ballots recorded. Roughly 388 more voters had checked in than ballots appeared in the system. County officials then located the unuploaded memory card.
Raffensperger stated, “This oversight didn’t just affect the numbers — it changed who was leading an election. That is unacceptable, and we intend to find out exactly how it happened.” His office opened an investigation into why the card was missed and whether required procedures were followed. County certification is due by Monday.
Democrats had appeared on track to gain a majority in the Georgia House for the first time in two decades. The reversal in District 154 narrows that prospective margin. A separate House race remains headed to a runoff.
The incident occurred after Election Day on November 3, when Democrats also secured majorities in the U.S. House and Senate. Raffensperger’s office emphasized that existing safeguards identified the gap between check-ins and recorded ballots.
