Washington, D.C. – The FBI and law enforcement partners foiled an alleged multi-phase terror plot involving explosive-laden drones aimed at the UFC Freedom 250 event on the White House South Lawn, officials announced on June 16, 2026. Five suspects are in custody following a swift multi-state investigation.

The plot, detected on June 10 through encrypted Signal chats, reportedly involved using drones to strike nearby buildings, triggering mass panic among the thousands of attendees and driving crowds toward waiting sniper positions. A second wave of attackers allegedly planned to exploit the chaos to breach White House gates. The event drew approximately 4,300 attendees, including over 1,200 military members and first responders, for the high-profile card headlined by Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje on President Trump’s 80th birthday.

FBI Director Kash Patel praised the rapid coordination across 12 field offices that neutralized the threat before any attacks could occur. One suspect allegedly cited motives targeting “capitalist elites,” billionaires, and politicians linked to AIPAC.

The disruption occurred amid heightened security for the SEAR 1-level event, which included extensive Secret Service, DHS, and interagency measures such as anti-drone technology, surveillance teams, and restricted airspace. The event proceeded successfully on June 14 without incident, thanks in part to these layered defenses.

This foiled plot underscores ongoing threats to high-profile national events and the effectiveness of proactive intelligence and law enforcement efforts in protecting public gatherings and government facilities. Investigations into the suspects’ networks and potential additional co-conspirators continue.

No injuries or disruptions occurred at the UFC Freedom 250 event, which was hailed as a major success in patriotic celebrations for America’s 250th anniversary.
