Erika Kirk Cancels TPUSA Appearance with JD Vance Over Serious Security Threats
In a post on X Tuesday night, Kirk wrote: “I was so looking forward to tonight’s event at the University of Georgia with our Vice President JD Vance, but after all our family has been through, I take my security team’s recommendations extremely seriously."

ATHENS, Ga. — Erika Kirk, CEO and chair of Turning Point USA and widow of founder Charlie Kirk, canceled her scheduled appearance at a TPUSA campus event at the University of Georgia on April 14, 2026, after receiving serious threats that prompted her security team to advise against travel.
Kirk was set to join Vice President JD Vance onstage for the student-focused gathering as part of TPUSA’s national campus tour. TPUSA spokesman Andrew Kolvet stepped in for her. Kolvet told the audience Kirk faced “very serious threats in her direction,” including repeated doxxing of her travel plans and attempts to track her movements. Security determined they could not guarantee her safety during transit, though the venue itself was secured once Vance arrived.
In a post on X Tuesday night, Kirk wrote: “I was so looking forward to tonight’s event at the University of Georgia with our Vice President JD Vance, but after all our family has been through, I take my security team’s recommendations extremely seriously. Thank you to our amazing Georgia chapter for your support. God bless you all.”
Vance opened his remarks by addressing the last-minute change, saying he had worried just two hours earlier that the entire event might need to be canceled. He expressed full support for Kirk’s decision to protect her family. “I know that she did get some threats,” Vance said, adding that organizers prioritized her safety.
The threats come amid ongoing public attacks on Kirk since her husband’s assassination last September at a campus event in Utah. Charlie Kirk was fatally shot while speaking; the suspect remains in custody facing aggravated murder charges. As a young mother now leading TPUSA alone, Kirk has faced conspiracy theories and criticism of her grieving process, including a recent “investigative series” announced by commentator Candace Owens titled “Bride of Charlie.” Conservative figures like Ben Shapiro have condemned such attacks as exploitative.
Vance offered a forceful defense of Kirk from the stage, calling the criticism “one of the most disgraceful things” he has seen in public life. He shared a personal account of being with Kirk and his wife as they loaded Charlie Kirk’s body onto Air Force Two and prayed together. “Grief is complicated,” Vance said. “The people telling you that Erika wasn’t grieving her husband are full of it.”
For Kirk and her children—who are now one parent away from being orphans—the decision to step back underscores the heavy personal toll of continuing her husband’s mission in an increasingly hostile environment. The event proceeded without further incident, allowing TPUSA to engage students as planned.
