DOJ Says Fired AG Pam Bondi Will Not Testify in House Epstein Probe
Bondi had been subpoenaed in her official capacity as attorney general. Assistant Attorney General Patrick D. Davis stated that because Bondi no longer holds the office, “the subpoena no longer obligates her to appear.”

WASHINGTON – The Department of Justice informed the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday that former Attorney General Pam Bondi will not appear for her scheduled April 14 deposition regarding the department’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Bondi had been subpoenaed in her official capacity as attorney general. In a letter to House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.), Assistant Attorney General Patrick D. Davis stated that because Bondi no longer holds the office, “the subpoena no longer obligates her to appear.”
The subpoena was issued last month as part of the committee’s investigation into how the Justice Department managed the Epstein case and the release of related documents. Bondi had been expected to answer questions about decisions made under her leadership.
House Oversight Committee Democrats reacted sharply to the news, with some accusing the Trump administration of attempting to shield Bondi from scrutiny. A committee spokesperson said Democrats are exploring options, including potentially issuing a new subpoena in Bondi’s personal capacity or pursuing contempt proceedings.
The development comes just days after President Trump fired Bondi as attorney general. Trump has not publicly commented on the subpoena matter, but the DOJ’s position is that the original subpoena was tied specifically to her official role and is now invalid.
The Epstein probe has been a point of contention, with congressional Republicans and Democrats both pressing for greater transparency into the government’s handling of the case involving the convicted sex offender.
No new date for Bondi’s testimony has been set, and it remains unclear whether the committee will attempt to compel her appearance as a private citizen.
