The Justice Department announced Friday that Jullie Ann Sumalinog Moore has been charged with voting by an alien in Nevada’s 2024 federal election, according to statements from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.

The criminal information alleges that on or about November 2, 2024, Moore cast a ballot in an election held in part to choose candidates for president, vice president, U.S. Senate, and U.S. House of Representatives. The charge is a single count of voting by an alien. Federal prosecutors did not publicly identify Moore’s country of origin. She has not yet made an initial court appearance, and no date has been set.

“Let me be absolutely clear: if you are a noncitizen and you cast a ballot in our elections, you are committing a federal crime,” First Assistant U.S. Attorney Sigal Chattah said in a statement. “We will not hesitate to use the full weight of federal law enforcement to investigate, indict, and prosecute anyone who attempts to compromise the integrity of our elections.” She credited the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations for their work on the case. The maximum statutory penalty is one year of imprisonment, a fine of up to $100,000, or both. An information is an allegation; Moore is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

The charge comes amid ongoing federal attention to noncitizen voting. Earlier this year, the Department of Homeland Security provided Nevada officials with a list of names it said could include noncitizens on the voter rolls. After state review, officials determined that individuals on a refined list of 185 were citizens, according to a letter from Nevada’s deputy attorney general. Federal officials had initially referenced a larger figure of roughly 15,900 potential cases before revising it. Separate Justice Department announcements this month have detailed charges against other noncitizens for illegal voting or related offenses in multiple districts nationwide.

Voting by noncitizens in federal elections is prohibited under federal law. The Nevada case was investigated by the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations. No further details about the specific circumstances of Moore’s registration or ballot have been released by prosecutors.
