Disney Labels GOP Senate Ads TV-MA, Cutting Reach on Streaming in Ohio, North Carolina, and Alaska

Disney is restricting Senate Leadership Fund ads on its streaming platforms by assigning them a TV-MA rating, limiting where the spots can run, according to documentation reviewed by Breitbart News. The Republican super PAC says the label has blocked at least two-thirds of its planned Ohio ads from most of Disney’s streaming audience and has also hit spots in North Carolina and Alaska. Those three states have competitive Senate races. SLF has committed tens of millions of dollars in advertising there. The group says Disney is the only major streaming company using the mature-audience label this way and that other platforms have carried the same creative.

SLF estimates the restrictions have cost millions of impressions and more than $2.6 million in projected spend. It says the policy has likely kept the ads from tens of thousands, and possibly hundreds of thousands, of subscribers. Connected-television spending in the 2026 cycle was projected by AdImpact this summer at more than $2.5 billion. SLF describes Disney as having the second-largest streaming footprint for political advertisers after YouTube. Hulu accepts candidate and issue ads after verification and creative review. Disney+ guidelines list political and election ads as not accepted. Streaming platforms are not bound by the FCC “reasonable access” rules that apply to broadcast stations. They can refuse or restrict ads under their own standards.

In Ohio, SLF is backing Sen. Jon Husted against former Sen. Sherrod Brown. Two restricted ads address Brown’s record on gender-transition procedures for minors. One released Thursday features 23-year-old detransitioner Soren Aldaco, who says she received hormone treatments and a double mastectomy after being told as a minor that she was transgender. In North Carolina, SLF says a single ad narrated by the father of a murdered college-age woman has been blocked from 75 percent of Hulu programming. The group has separately attacked Democrat Roy Cooper on crime. Alaska is also on the restricted list. Newsmax reported that it sought comment from SLF and Disney. Streaming clearance, unlike broadcast lowest-unit-charge rules the Supreme Court recently applied to party committees, remains a private-platform decision. The midterms are five weeks away.
