Border Czar Tom Homan Touts Record Deportation Pace in Newsmax Interview

White House Border Czar Tom Homan told Newsmax’s “Greg Kelly Reports” that Immigration and Customs Enforcement and partner agencies are operating at a record pace of deportations, pushing back against claims that the Trump administration has scaled back interior enforcement efforts.

In the August 10 interview, Homan emphasized that removing illegal immigrants is more complex than simply locating individuals and immediately deporting them. He pointed to operational realities including legal requirements, court challenges, and varying levels of cooperation from local jurisdictions as factors that shape the pace of removals, while insisting the overall numbers remain historically high.

Homan has consistently highlighted the administration’s results since President Donald Trump returned to office. Across recent public statements, he has cited cumulative removals exceeding 800,000 and, in some updates, approaching or surpassing one million when accounting for certain categories of departures, figures he describes as surpassing previous presidential records. He has repeatedly noted that roughly 60 to 70 percent of those arrested by ICE are individuals with criminal convictions or pending criminal charges, framing the prioritization of public safety threats as central to the strategy.

The border czar linked the elevated enforcement to broader policy successes, including what he calls the most secure border in modern U.S. history and significant increases in ICE personnel. He has referenced the hiring of thousands of additional deportation officers as a key driver for sustained and potentially higher future numbers. Homan has also credited interagency coordination and the use of tools such as the CBP Home app in facilitating voluntary departures alongside formal removals.

In the Newsmax appearance, Homan rejected narratives that the administration is retreating from its mass deportation commitments. He stressed that the focus remains on public safety and national security threats while continuing operations across the country, including in areas with sanctuary policies that limit local cooperation.
